I believe that the classroom environment is a key factor in a student’s success. I am dedicated to creating a welcoming, student-focused classroom that is both organized and engaging.
In my classroom, you will find visual learning aids, student work/art on display, flexible seating, and manipulatives for hands-on learning.
Classroom Environment
When teaching, I feel that it is most important to be consistent with my students. For instance, establishing a clear set of expectations with my students at the start of the school year will not only help with classroom management but will also help my students feel a sense of stability while at school. Along with this, I find that it is vital to incorporate student interest into the curriculum in order to provide a more meaningful education.
Aspects of my teaching style include inquiry-based learning, creativity, large-group and small-group learning opportunities, student voice, and movement opportunities.
Teaching Style
I believe that it is important to let students participate in the process of creating classroom rules and enforcing them amongst one another. Along with this, I find that it is best to use positive reinforcements in order to affirm positive behaviors in the classroom.
Positive reinforcements that you will see in my classroom include:
Safe space for students who need a private space to regulate their emotions
Verbal praise (Ex. “I can tell that you took your time solving that problem; you must be so proud of yourself!”)
Non-verbal cues (thumbs up, clapping, high-five, etc.)
Behavior Management
Parent Communication
Parent involvement in the classroom is crucial in a student’s learning, so it’s important that I communicate with parents effectively to ensure that they are aware of what is happening in the classroom throughout each week/month.
I have used various communication means in my classroom (per district guidelines) and am most familiar with
Weekly and Monthly Newsletters
Daily Reports (on a case-by-case basis)
Classroom Bulletin Board (outside the classroom)
Snap Connect! (formerly School CNXT)
Google Voice
Conference Notes
